Svartifoss Waterfall Detail
The 45-minute hike to the Svartifoss waterfall meanders through a stunted birch tree forest (forests are rare in Iceland) and ends at a small viewing platform. I found the area surrounding the waterfall to be quite fantastical due to the hanging black hexagonal columns. It looks like something out of “Lord of the Rings.” This is a detail image of the broken hexagonal lava columns at the base of the waterfall.
